I bought a one-way ticket in Swansea and sailed to Ireland. When I arrived I had nothing to show of my work because I had forgotten my suitcase filled with notebooks, drawings, photographs and sentimental things.

I did have my flute and a bag of oil paints with me, though, and when I was settled in Cork City, I purchased a stretched canvas and painted a signature piece.
